 Decree Nights with SurattYaseen by Ustadha Awatif Alhashimi – Masjid Bani Hashim

Introduction

BISMILLAHI ARRAHMAN ARRAHIM

• Some Ulemah says this is part of the Surah and some said It is not ,The strongest opinion is

• You start with Bismillahi it comes in front of the surah

Explanation

• يس   (Yaseen) letter in Arabc . Quran was revealed in Arabic and in a time where Arabic language was very strong. Makkah was the center for  this .Nabi (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) was illiterate and never knew how to make a poem, even if he want to say Allah cause him to forget. So whatever He say is from Allah. There is non meaning known to us of this letter moqataa.

• وَالْقُرْآنِ الْحَكِيمِ , و [By the wise Qur'an.]

•  wa Qassamiyah =swear Allah swears on any creation as he is the creator .We human being have no right to do so . we can only swear by Allah.We we do this we have committed Minor Shirk. Allah swore on Quran as He wants us to think of its importance. Whenever Allah swear other parts of Quran he say Quran is Majid,Hakeem, and so on. Quran is Allah kalaam(Speech of Allah) unlike people say it is Allah’s creation.

• The nights of Decree are the night where Quran descended. The whole Quran came in the lowest heaven in those days.

• Allah describes this Quran Al Hakeem, We know The Name of Allah Al Hakeem (الْحَكِيمِ الله ) The Al wise. Hakeem comes from Ha Ka Ma meaning to rule,Muhkam perfectly .

• Quran is logic, it is perfect . After swearing Allah gives us important message.

• إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ – [Truly, you (O Muhammad SAW) are one of the Messengers,]

• إِنَّكَ(Tawkeed,affirming)

• (لَ) Affirming

• (مِنَ) part of it

• (الْمُرْسَلِينَ) those messengers came by Allah’s command.  

• (عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ )[ On a Straight Path (i.e. on Allah's religion of Islamic Monotheism)] .We follow you their path and methodology.

• (تَنْزِيلَ الْعَزِيزِ الرَّحِيمِ) [(This is) a Revelation sent down by the AllMighty, the Most Merciful,]

• (تَنْزِيل) It was ascended gradually by الْعَزِيز (Al Aziz).

• الْعَزِيز mean Honor ,Power. He is Aziz on those who Don't follow the straight path. He is Raheem on those who follow His straight path. 

• لِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا مَا أُنْذِرَ آبَاؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَافِلُونَ [In order that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are heedless.]

• لِتُنْذِر to warn (ل) Laam Altaaleel

• لَقَدْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ [Indeed the Word (of punishment) has proved true against most of them, so they will not believe.] 

• (لَقَد) tawkeed affirming

• (الْقَوْلُ) Comes from Allah,there is punishment for those who don’t believe .

• (أَكْثَر) Majority do not believe. If you see in Quran (Qaleelan) very few are believers, thankful, pious

• (إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ أَغْلَالًا فَهِيَ إِلَى الْأَذْقَانِ فَهُمْ مُقْمَحُونَ)[Verily! We have put on their necks iron collars reaching to chins, so that their heads are forced up.]

• (إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا) The نّ stands for Majesty, granulizing

• (غْلَا) hand tight, it like an humiliation for them .

(وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَاهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ ) [And We have put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and We have covered them up, so that they cannot see.] They have all proof but yet they reject and don’t want to follow the Prophet .As if they are blind from front, back, up and down.

• (وَسَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنْذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ) It is the same to them whether you warn them or you warn them not, they will not believe. The scale of their heart is dead.

RECAP

• Last night ,we spoke about the Quran been revealed by Allah to Nabi (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) who is on the straight path. Learning from him is being on the straight path . Allah said they don’t follow, their hands chained on neck and neck up (sign of arrogance),

• We have to strive behind the Hidayah(guidance),because that will last for Dunya and Akhira. Allah already decree your provision and so,Allah requires you to strive,He wants tosee how much you run behind the guidance.

• Then Allah said they're  blocked,from back and front. There is Ghishawa (cover) on their heart. Heart sees and listens but if it gets sick it becomes weaker. Sometimes heart gets Qaswa(hard and blind)

• In Ayah 10 Allah says whether you warn them or no they will not believe.

• Last night ,we spoke about the Quran been revealed by Allah to Nabi Mohammed    صلى الله عليه وسلم  used to get sad when they don’t believe but it didn’t stop warning.

Explanation

• Who benefits from the warning ? here is the answer  

• Ayah 11

 

إِنَّمَا تُنْذِرُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الذِّكْرَ وَخَشِيَ الرَّحْمَٰنَ بِالْغَيْبِ ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ

 

[ can only warn him who follows the Reminder (the Quran), and fears the Most Beneficent (Allah) unseen. Bear you to such one the glad tidings of forgiveness, and a generous reward (i.e. Paradise).]

• (تُنْذِرُ) who ?  (مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الذِّكْرَ ) to follow Quran . How do you follow Quran ,if we don’t understand, recite ,dig into its treasure ? We have to have Yaqeen (certainty) believe, and follow without doubt . doubt will kill the faith. Only that ? No

• (وَخَشِيَ) fear + grandulizing ) when they have knowledge .

• Khawf is afraid ,for example afraid of insect and so but khashia is the more; who knows Allah and Quran then they magnify Allah and all His creations become small. Khashia comes with knowledge and ta3dheem .

• If we fear Allah we will be closer ,more faith then more trust in Allah.

• الرَّحْمَٰنَ) Most Merciful, Since their fear Allah ,Allah’s Mercy comes on them.(الرحمن بِالْغَيْبِ), truth khashia.

• Anything Allah love they will do. Allah loves/ yuhibbu Mutaqeen.Innallaha yuhibbu tawabeen they will do  tawbah..etc…and they refrain from anything Allah dislikes. 

• What makes you far from Allah. 

I want to preserve Ibada s from what you do and say. Like I don’t like to cover and say it suffocating but because Allah loves it I will do and Allah will love me . Ibada is life time actions and deeds.believer's even  raha time(rest time) is Ibada.

• what will benefit they will get from remembrance of Quran and fear or have khashya?

• 1 -(بِمَغْفِرَةٍ) meaning Sitr, forgiveness , Kullu bani Adam khataa all Adam off spring make sin and best among them who repent. 

• We need takhliya( first Allah has to forgive) before Tahliyah (sweetness) Before you cook rice ,you have to strain it .

• Allah Forgives (whatever happened in the past)

• Tawbah (protect from future)

• Both tawhab comes in forgiveness

• 2 – (وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ  ) Allah Al Kareem ,The most generous ,most beautiful ,Ihsan from Allah. We do one deed and Allh multiplies it ,because He's Kareem. But first you have to fulfill 2 condition :itTabaa adhikir and khashia Alrahman bilghaiib. 

• There are people who do good all life but in the time of death Allah doesn’t give them good end and there is worst of people to your eyes but Allah give them good end. Because Allah knows their heart.

• Ayah 12:

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا وَآثَارَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ فِي إِمَامٍ مُبِينٍ

 

• [Verily, We give life to the dead, and We record that which they send before (them), and their traces [their footsteps and walking on the earth with their legs to the masjid for the five compulsory congregational prayers, Jihad (holy fighting in Allah's Cause) and all other good and evil they did, and that which they leave behind], and all things We have recorded with numbers (as a record) in a Clear Book.]

• Allah says there are heart which dies, Allah give life to the death and death to the life. Land (dead land) see Dubai 30 years back, became alive now with all greenery mashaAllah. Allah make it .Allah use plural for ta3dheem.

• Whats comes out from chicken ? Egg ! and whats come out an egg ? Chicken.

• There are heart those who are dead .

• (ٰ وَنَكْتُبُ) we write . Who write ? the soldiers of Allah what they write ,that’s their duty.( مَا قَدَّمُوا ) to present their deeds,you present your deeds for your akhira .

• .`prophet Sulayman (as) went to the market and  how surprised he became to see (Kiraman Katibeen) fill the record and how fast the people fill it .

• (أَحْصَيْنَاهُ ) all registered what? actions of the heart,tongue and limbs. All witness in the day of judgement every part will witness .

• (وَآثَارَهُم) Traces when we live in Dunya we have to leave good (athar) Sadaqa jariya,beneficial knowledge, waladun saliha (pious son) and so.. Even when you die ,your ajr continues ,you can spread knowledge ,teach people, and don’t neglect your own children. People think about dunya , which school my kids go,and this is lower school and that it prestigious . If you left behind a pious child Allah in the day of judgment Allah  will elevate you,you will ask how . Allah will say you left a pious child who invoked for you . Allah says ( وَكُلَّ شَيْ ) census  (  فِي إِمَامٍ مُبِينٍ  )  meaning Book with Allah

• Ayah 13 وَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ مَثَلًا أَصْحَابَ الْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَاءَهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ [And put forward to them a similitude; the (story of the) dwellers of the town, when there came Messengers to them.] Qaryah actually means city.  Messengers go to them .Allah didn’t mentioned the name of the messenger and the name of the city, that means it is not important for us to know .

• Ayah 14 إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهِمُ اثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا إِلَيْكُمْ مُرْسَلُونَ [When We sent to them two Messengers, they belied them both, so We reinforced them with a third, and they said: "Verily! We have been sent to you as Messengers."] . The two messengers came to them, they belied them ,then third messenger came and still they belied. when they don’t want to believe they bely . Inna ilaykum mursaloon its affirming.

• Ayah 15 قَالُوا مَا أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَا وَمَا أَنْزَلَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ [They (people of the town) said: " 1 -You are only human beings like ourselves, 2 and the Most Beneficent (Allah) has revealed nothing,3 you are only telling lies."]  . they have objection . why ? when people are arrogant they don’t want to believe . 

In life when you are accused of something you are not sometimes you have to defend yourself. So what did those messengers say. 👇

• Ayah 16 قَالُوا رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّا إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ [The Messengers said: "Our Lord knows that we have been sent as Messengers to you,] .Qaloo rabbana they call Rububiyah Khasa.

RECAP 

•

Allah is telling us about the (story of the) dwellers of the town,  when there came Messengers to them.Qarya actually means huge city, Allah send to them messengers the same message .Allah didn’t mention the name of the messengers and the name of the city, that means it is not important for us to know .

•

Allah sent to them two Messengers, they belied them both, so Allah reinforced them with a third, and still belied. when they don’t want to believe they belie by saying :You are only human beings like ourselves, and the Most Beneficent (Allah) has revealed nothing, you are only telling lies  . They have objection and when people have objection, they don’t want to follow the truth . why ? when people are arrogant they don’t want to believe . and that is when the faith is weak . 

EXPLANATION

18- (قَالُوا إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ ۖ لَئِنْ لَمْ تَنْتَهُوا لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُمْ مِنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

 

 

•

[They( people) said: "For us, we see an evil omen from you, if you cease not, we will surely stone you, and a painful torment will touch you from us."]

•

(تَطَيَّر) Evil omen such as before they used to make the bird fly and if he goes and take their decision according the direction the bird will fly on , unlucky number, color, number 13,or if I see this or that my mood change and so on .

•

They told all Messengers and Prophets of Allah that they will stone them till death, so you will be a lesson for  future messengers.

•19 –( قَالُوا طَائِرُكُمْ مَعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِنْ ذُكِّرْتُمْ ۚ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُسْرِفُونَ - )  [They (Messengers) said: "Your evil omens be with you! (Do you call it "evil omen") because you are admonished? Nay, but you are a people Musrifun (transgressing all bounds by committing all kinds of great sins, and by disobeying Allah).]

•The Messengers said your bad luck is with you, because of your own deeds they didn’t thank and fulfill Allah’s command in the time of ease. They are admonished because they were transgressed and they crossed the boundaries of Allah. Allah sent many messengers but they didn’t believe.

•20 –( وَجَاءَ مِنْ أَقْصَى الْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اتَّبِعُواالْمُرْسَلِينَ )  A man  came running from the farthest part of the town saying: "O my people! Obey the Messengers,he heard there is messengers and he doesn’t want to lose this opportunity. He want to see the messengers. (Yaa Qawm) is a soft word to call for Dawah.

•

21 – (اتَّبِعُوا مَنْ لَا يَسْأَلُكُمْ أَجْرًا وَهُمْ مُهْتَدُونَ) "Obey those who ask no wages of you (for themselves), and who are rightly guided.

•

Follow the messengers who are on the guidance,they want nothing from you .When you do dawah, don’t do for people pocket (money) but look at the reward from Allah. Also those messengers are (Muhtadoon) rightly guided. 

•22 –( وَمَا لِيَ لَا أَعْبُدُ الَّذِي فَطَرَنِي وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ ) "And why should I not worship Him (Allah Alone) Who has created me and to Whom you shall all be returned.

•We should be careful, today people don’t need idols to worship, they worship their HAWA (desires).

                                                                                                   23 – (أَأَتَّخِذُ مِنْ دُونِهِآلِهَةً إِنْ يُرِدْنِ الرَّحْمَٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَا تُغْنِ عَنِّي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا يُنْقِذُونِ

 

 

• 

)"Shall I take besides Him aliha (gods), if the Most Beneficent (Allah) intends me any harm, their intercession will be of no use for me whatsoever, nor can they save me?

•

(Ilah) is one God . Aliha is many when you say La ilahaIla illa Allah , it doesn’t mean there is No God but Allah, BUT it means there is NO TRUE GOD worthy of worship except Allah. 

If Allah decree for me any harm ,no one can protect me. He is ArRahman . In alLawhi elMahfoodh (The Preserved tablet) Allah wrote my Mercy precede my Anger. We cross that limit saying sometimes I will do intercession for you,its easy to say it , but in the day of judgment as Allah say : (يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ )That Day shall a man flee from his brother, ( وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ  ) And from his mother and his father, (وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ  ) And from his wife and his children. SubhanAllah

•

24 –( إِنِّي إِذًا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ) "Then verily, I should be in plain error.

•

Elhamdellah for Islamic country but in non-Islamic country they throw stone at you with their words and mock whereas inside them they are miserable. 

•

25 –( إِنِّي آمَنْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَاسْمَعُونِ )Verily! I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me!"

•

Name of Allah ArRabb, in this name comes all. Allah creator, sustainer,

Provider,nurturer  He is ARRBB of everyone, but There is Rububiya Khasa which is special nurturing that Allah give to  His special slaves. Allah gives them hayati tayyiba (quality life), Noor (light and guidance) . Allah sees all, just have patience . What is prerequisite is Eman bilghaib (believe in the unssen) and khashiat from ArRahman (fear with knowledge and magnifying of Allah the AlMighty).

RECAP 

• A man  came running from the farthest part of the town saying: "O my people! Obey the Messengers,he heard there is messengers and he doesn’t want to lose this opportunity. He want to see the messengers. He try to convince propel of the city that the Messengers are on truth and on Tawheed,but they killed him. He was so eager to do Dawah even when he died he puttied about his people after going to paradise. Wishing them how he was honored and forgiven 

 

EXPLANATION

 

• 26-(قِيلَ ادْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَ ۖ قَالَ يَا لَيْتَ قَوْمِي يَعْلَمُونَ ) It was said (to him when the disbelievers killed him): "Enter Paradise." He said: "Would that my people knew!  How He went to Jannah and day of judgement didn’t come yet ? We know the grave can be garden of jannah or jahanam. The Martyrs are not dead ,they are inside birds flying in jannah or inside  lentil enjoying watching paradise. He wished good for his people though they killed him,He wanted that people could know.

 

• 27 –( بِمَا غَفَرَ لِي رَبِّي وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ الْمُكْرَمِينَ) "That my Lord (Allah) has forgiven me, and made me of the honoured ones!"Ikram Allah knows who deserves to be in paradise, Ikram from Allah. Angles. People of paradise. (Strive for deen and akhira don't be lazy or slow)

 

• 28-( وَمَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ مِنْ جُنْدٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنْزِلِينَ - ) And We sent not against his people after him a host from heaven, nor do We send (such a thing). Allah didn’t need to send His soldier to punish them,as they was so disgraced.

 

• 29-(إِنْ كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ خَامِدُونَ -)It was but one Saihah (shout, etc.) and lo! They (all) were silent (dead-destroyed). If you compare the people of Lut where all was turn with 1 wing ,but those was so disgraced  that it was one loud sound(scream sound). Khamd is means distinguished, resembling the fire in the desert finishing, This is how they died.That's how arrogant liars they were.

 

• 30- (يَا حَسْرَةً عَلَى الْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ ) Alas for mankind! There never came a Messenger to them but they used to mock at him. Three Messengers came to they and they belied and mocked at them. حَسْرَة is remorse . those who didn’t listen the truth . If you mock at one pillars or laws or practice of islam you have done Kufr (disbelieve)

 

• 31 –(أَلَمْ يَرَوْا كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُمْ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ ) Do they not see how many of the generations We have destroyed before them? Verily, they will not return to them. People of Aad till today it was total desert. Allah talks about people of Aad and says there is sign and today they found whole city of aad and huge skeleton of people underground .And Allah knows best.

 

• 32- (وَإِنْ كُلٌّ لَمَّا جَمِيعٌ لَدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ) And surely, all, everyone of them will be brought before Us. There will always be fight between the falsehood and the truth but the truth always comes up. People of Aad were very strong and huge but only one wind destroyed them. Whereas for ashaab elqarya, Allah said he didn’t need to send His soldiers. This is a lesson for us.And at the end all will be in return and be in front of Allah.

 

• 33-(وَآيَةٌ لَهُمُ الْأَرْضُ الْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَاهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ ) And there is a sign which is the dead land. Allah gave it life, and brought forth from it grains, so that they eat thereof.

 

• 34-( وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّاتٍ مِنْ نَخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَابٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ الْعُيُونِ) And We have made therein gardens of date-palms and grapes, and We have caused springs of water to gush forth therein. And that is the blessings of Allah.

 

• 35- (لِيَأْكُلُوا مِنْ ثَمَرِهِ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ ) So that they may eat of the fruit thereof, and their hands made it not. Will they not, then, give thanks? We need to be thankful for all the blessings. We need to follow the condition of thankfulness : gratitude in the heart,but remembering Allah in the heart, also in the tongue say it and and with the limbs how you use this blessings. And the opposite is kufr.

 

• 36-(  سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْأَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنْبِتُ الْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا  َ) perfect is Allah and Glory be to Him, Who has created all the pairs of that which the earth produces, as well as of their own (human) kind (male and female), and of that which they know not. Allah starts with سُبْحَانَ . meaning He is free from all imperfections and Glory be to Him. Tasbih is only for Allah. All pairs in this life are from Allah. Even plants today they discovers that it has to be male and female. Why سُبْحَانَ? Because Allah is the the First and One. Everything He created has/ needs a pair not  Him.

 

• 37-(وَآيَةٌ لَهُمُ اللَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ النَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُمْ مُظْلِمُونَ) And a sign for them is the night, We withdraw there from the day, and behold, they are in darkness. This is a big sign . How the skin of the goat is pulled, light of day and it was pulled .

 

• 38 – (وَالشَّمْسُ تَجْرِي لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ)) And the sun runs on its fixed course for a term (appointed). That is the Decree of the All-Mighty, the All-Knowing. Each has is own fixed time,you will not see the sun and moon mixed . The sun doesn’t come at the time of the moon.

 

 

• 39-(وَالْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَاهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَالْعُرْجُونِ الْقَدِيمِ) And the moon, We have measured for it mansions (to traverse) till it returns like the old dried curved date stalk.

 

• 40- (لَا الشَّمْسُ يَنْبَغِي لَهَا أَنْ تُدْرِكَ الْقَمَرَ وَلَا اللَّيْلُ سَابِقُ النَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّ فِي فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ ) It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit. And when are in the plane we feel it is not moving. Abu Dhar (RA)Narrated The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلام ) asked me at sunset, "Do you know where the sun goes (at the time of sunset)?" I replied, "Allah and His Apostle know better." He said, "It goes (i.e. travels) till it prostrates Itself underneath the Throne and takes the permission to rise again, and it is permitted and then (a time will come when) it will be about to prostrate itself but its prostration will not be accepted, and it will ask permission to go on its course but it will not be permitted, but it will be ordered to return whence it has come and so it will rise in the west . And How this happening? Allah knows and We don’t know. The universe submitting and obeying. We human beings are doing fassad on earth.

 

• 41-( وَآيَةٌ لَهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِي الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ ) And an Ayah (sign) for them is that We bore their offspring in the laden ship [of Nuh (Noah)]. Who carry the ship on the sea? Allah !All mankind died, except Noah (as) the 2nd father and all those on the boat were saved because of their believe.

Tuesday Decree Nights with Surah Yaseen -Masjid Bani Hashim

RECAP ​

• We have mentioned that there was a sign for them which  Allah bore their offspring in the laden ship of Nuh(as). Who carry the ship on the sea? Allah !

All drowned, except Noah (as) the 2nd father and all those on the ship were saved because of their believe and that was by the command of Allah.

EXPLANATION

 

• 43-( وَإِنْ نَشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْقَذُونَ) And if We will, We shall drown them, and there will be no shout (or helpe for them)or (to hear their cry for help) nor will they be saved. The ships are made of pillars and nails, it is a sign from of Allah. Allah protects and guards it. 

(فَلَا صَرِيخَ) No one can hear or help them. Yesterday we mentioned about those people defying the Messengers and they belied them . Allah destroyed them with one sound. Masheee'aatullah (Will of Allah) different than Irada'tullah ( Want of Allah). Allah wishes  good for all and what Allah wish, will happen whether you want or no (that's Masheee'aatullah )

Allah wants all to pray and be on the right path and all be Muslims but it doesn’t happen (iradaruAllah)

 

• 44 –( إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِنَّا وَمَتَاعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ) Unless it be a mercy from Us, and as an enjoyment for a while.

 

• 45 -( وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّقُوا مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ  - ) And when it is said to them: "Beware of that which is before you (worldly torments), and that which is behind you (torments in the Hereafter), in order that you may receive Mercy (i.e. if you believe in Allah's Religion Islamic Monotheism, and avoid polytheism, and obey Allah with righteous deeds). It is said to them to fear Allah (by preventing oneself from Haram and enjoing Halal .

What did ‘Umar رضي الله عنه answer when he asked Ubayy bin Ka‘b رضي الله عنه, “What is Taqwa?” Ubayy رضي الله عنه replied, “What would you do if you had to walk through a path of thorns?” ‘Umar رضي الله عنه answered, “I would roll up my sleeves and protect myself from them.” Ubayy رضي الله عنه said, “That is Taqwa.”

Have Taqwa and patience for what you are doing in dunya and Akhira. There is a reason for you to have TAQWA. 

لعلّكم ترحمون LA’AlAKUM TURHAMOON (In order to have Allah’s Mercy. No one will enter Paradise cause of his own deeds. Fear Allah wherever you are .If you do mistake rub it with good deeds. 'Aisha said If the Prophet saw a cloud In the sky, he would walk in agitation, go out and come in, and the color of his face would change, and if it rained, he would feel relaxed." So 'Aisha knew that state of his. So the Prophet said, I don't know (am afraid), it may be similar to what happened to some people referred to in the Holy Quran in the following Verse: -- 

But non believers how do they react with Allah's signs ??

"Then when they saw a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said, 'This is a cloud bringing us rain!' Nay, but, it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened a wind wherein is severe torment." (46.24)

In a Hadith AlQudussi , On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: Allah the Almighty said:

O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it.  at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal)

 

 

• 46-( وَمَا تَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ ) And never came an Ayah from among the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord to them, but they did turn away from it.

 

• 47 – (وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنْفِقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللَّهُ قَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنُطْعِمُ مَنْ لَوْ يَشَاءُ اللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ  ) And when it is said to them: "Spend of that with which Allah has provided you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe: "Shall we feed those whom, if Allah willed, He (Himself) would have fed? You are only in a plain error." Rizq if from Allah and we forget that, dirham won/Sabaqat 100 dirhams . The one who give one dhs  have only two dhs better than the one gives hundred while having thousands in his account.

 

In Surah albaqarah Ayah 261, Allah says 1 seed he puts each will grow to 700. Allah multiplied the deeds, give Sadaqah, specially women,even half a date. If we want our sick to get healed, give sadaqahwe want wealth to grow, give sadaqa, if we want shade of Allah in DOJ, give with your right hand while left hands doesn’t know. And when we spend, we have to fulfill two rules: don’t remind people from the favours and the other also if you give or not, don't  hurt people .Never underestimate a faqeer, they are test for you. Islam is in middle in its way, simple and easy. 

 

• 48 – (وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ - ) وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ) And they say: "When will this promise (i.e. Resurrection) be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" Eman(faith) has 6 pillars,if you disbelieve in one of them you have disbelieve in all. Because of their disbelieve they question when the DOJ will come. Allah answers them in the next Ayah

 

 

• 49-(  مَا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ - ) They await only but a single Saihah (shout, etc.), which will seize them while they are disputing! Israfeel who is in charge of blowing has always his mouth next to the trumpet and his eyes on the arsh waiting for the command of Allah, he doesn’t close his eyes afraid to miss the command . But us human beings we take it for granted. DOJ will not come till no one will say la ilaha ila Allah. They will have no fear of Allah and DOJ. ( يَخِصِّمُونَ) means they argue,dispute.

 

• 50- (فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةً وَلَا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ) 

Then they will not be able to make bequest, nor they will return to their family. They got no chance to do their wasiyah. When our death comes our Qiyamah start, we can't go back.

 

• 51- (وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُمْ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنْسِلُونَ) And the Trumpet will be blown (i.e. the second blowing) and behold! From the graves they will come out quickly to their Lord. This is when people will come out of their grave running to Allah as stated in Surah Al Qariah

 

• 52 – (قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا مَنْ بَعَثَنَا مِنْ مَرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ هَٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَصَدَقَ الْمُرْسَلُونَ) They will say: "Woe to us! Who has raised us up from our place of sleep." (It will be said to them): "This is what the Most Beneficent (Allah) had promised, and the Messengers spoke truth!"They will send (wail) remorse and regret. People who don’t want to remember death are dead. When you sleep sometimes remember death, ask yourself is my grave going to be as comfortable as my bed is now ?

Decrees Nights with Surah Yaseen -Masjid BaniHashim

•

We have mentioned the description of the Day of Judgment where there will be two blows of thetrumpet according the Majority of the scholars. From the graves they will come out quickly to their Lord. This is when people will come out of their grave fast, running to Allah. The torment of the grave is nothing compare to the torment ofday of Qiyamah.

 

EXPLANATION

 

•

53-( إِنْ كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَدَيْنَامُحْضَرُونَ) It will be but a single Saihah (shout) and They will all be brought up before Allah.

 

•

54 (فَالْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْئًا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ )Inthe Day of Resurrection, none will be wronged in anything, nor will you be requited anything except that which you used to do. Only Allah will judge .Each one will be accountable for their deeds. No one will carry other person’s sins unless he/she is the reason of misguidance. Our Prophet (SAW) said "If anyone calls others to follow right guidance, his reward will be equivalent to those who follow him (in righteousness) without their reward being diminished in any respect, and if anyone invites others to follow error, the sin, will be equivalent to that of the people who follow him (in sinfulness) without their sins being diminished in any respect".
[Muslim].

True story: One man Allah gave him hiyadahbefore he died but he had a website where he had indecent photos. His friends knew about it . Time passed and the mother dreamt every day one dog comes and pees on his grave. When his friends heard they understood why, however, they didn’t know the password of the website. They beg people to block it. Technology can be evil or can be good. Each one will be accountable for their deeds.

That day they will swear they didn’t stay in dunyamore than an hour. On day in  Day of judgment is: 1 day= 50,000 years SubhanaAllah.

55 (  إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ الْيَوْمَ فِي شُغُلٍ فَاكِه Did I not ordain for you, O Children of Adam, that you should not worship Shaitan (Satan). Verily, he is a plain enemy to you. ) Verily, the dwellers of the Paradise, that Day, will be busy in joyful things. They will be busy with food and pleasure of Paradise. ( Fakiha) is pleasure .In arabicfakiha is fruit. Why? Fruit is leausire food. Weeither eat food cause of hunger, sickness, orpleasure.

 

•

56(هُمْ وَأَزْوَاجُهُمْ فِي ظِلَالٍ عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ مُتَّكِئُونَ)They and their wives will be in pleasant shade, reclining on thrones. There will young boy handsome serving, they are all special. No one will be single in Paradise, and all will have good character. People will enter Jannah clean, no sins, no jealousy. No wrinkles, tiredness, old age,death and no sleep.

57 (لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَلَهُمْ مَا يَدَّعُونَ ) They will have therein fruits (of all kinds) and all that they ask for. Anything they wish for will come in front of them. If you want to meet your friend, their throne/ara’ek will meet and talk. In Surah AtTur,Allah says that day we will be rememberingtheir conversation  in dunya.

58 (سَلَامٌ قَوْلًا مِنْ رَبٍّ رَحِيمٍ  ) (It will be said to them):Salamun (peace be on you), a Word from the Lord (Allah), Most Merciful. The promise of Allah makes us fear. They will breath dhikrnaturally. There will be Friday markets, andwhatever you wish, you get it. This Friday market is place of meeting there will be a wind.  You will have meeting with Allah . Allah’sKursi will be descended; the Prophets and Messengers, the siddiqoon and Martyrs will be sitting. The announcement will be fulfilled. The wind will come, and the light comes. Allah comes and greets with Salam: La labayk rabanawa sadaik. They answer and still Allah is behind the Hijab. His Hijab is Noor.

Allah will ask people of paradise: are youpleased? They will say you madee us pass thesirat and admit us to Paradise how can we not be pleased. Allah will say do you want and they will say your pleasure. Allah will say I’m pleased with you. And they will say we are please with you. The time will pass and again they will have meeting with Allah. They will say we want to see you. Then Allah will remove His Hijab. Allah will make us that day able totolerate that powerful light. Rasul Allah (SAW) said: If Allah remove his Hijab that light will burn all. That’s why Musa (as) after hearing the voice of Allah wanted to see Him but He wouldn’t take it.

 

•

59 (وَامْتَازُوا الْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا الْمُجْرِمُونَ) (It will be said): "And O you Al-Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, disbelievers in the Islamic Monotheism, wicked evil ones, etc.)! Get you apart this Day (from the believers).in dunyapeople are being tittle Mujrimun but in Akhirathey are the real one. They did fassad oneath,sins,spread mischieves. So they deserve to be in hell and that’s why those who will enter hellfire will say elhamdellah. They deserve It as they were warned.

60 (أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَا بَنِي آدَمَ أَنْ لَا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّيْطَانَ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْعَدُوٌّ مُبِينٌ )Did I not ordain for you, O Children of Adam, that you should not worship Shaitan(Satan). Verily, he is a plain enemy to you.Whoever doesn’t worship Allah, he worshipSaytan.if you follow shaytan you be out of Allah s Mercy.

I want to repent.. but why should I?

I Want to Repent but....why should I?

Introduction 

• Allah (swt) gives us the success to repent and He is the One accepts the repentance.
  
•  We have to think about our akhirah and what has He kept for the pious people and what has He
  kept for those who do not repent, may Allah (swt) protect us. Ameen.
  
  
  
  
•  A man said I believe in Allah (swt) and the Last Day, but one thing are my temptations, I am weak. So
  the he was told, if you want to sin, then don’t eat from the rizq Allah has provided you, he said I can’t do that, everything is from Allah (swt). Then he said if you want to sin, don’t be on a land that belongs to Allah (swt), then he said it is not possible, every place belongs to Allah (swt). Then he was told, if you want to sin, then do it in a place where Allah (swt) cannot see you. So then the man said Allah (swt) knows the secrets and what is more hidden, how can I sin? Then he told if the angel of death comes to you, then tell him to wait, and he said the angel of death comes when the time comes and will not delay or postpone. Allah (swt) made some angels with no mercy in their hearts, they are called ‘az zabaniah’ – they are the angels of punishment.
  
•  We have to remember that in the end we will all die, and our families will forget us and move on, even the most beloved, if you ask them to enter the grave with you, would they do it? No, subhan Allah.
  
•  We have to remember that Allah (swt) loves those who repent to Him.

• What takes you away from Allah (swt)?
   Temptations: your desire is above the obedience of Allah (swt).  Doubts: doubts in the religion
   Anger: one has anger against others. 

Reminders to repent

§  There was a story of a lady that could not be carried to be placed into the grave, finally when they took it the grave, the body fell and still didn’t reach the grave. Whenever they turned the face to the qibla, it would turn the other way. The sheikh wanted to know from the boy why this was happening to his mother, and he didn’t tell him. Then the boy came back, and he had changed and repented. He said my mother was a good woman, but she didn’t pray or she would delay her prayer. It is said that those who delibarely not pray, should not even buried in the Muslim graveyard. We ask Allah (swt) for the good end. Ameen.

§  There are those who sin and people look down on them, little do they know of the guilt in their heart, and there are those who are worshiping night and day, but they have arrogance in their heart as if they are better than the rest. Little do you know who will have the good end, subhan Allah.

You are alone on the Day of Judgment

§  No one can save you but yourself, don’t wait for a miracle – not your parents, not your friends – even if you go to your parents for one deed to be saved, they will not give it you, subhan Allah.

§  You are responsible for whatever you do.

§  Hadith: (وعن أنس رضي الله عنه قال‏:‏ سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول‏:‏ “قال الله تعالى‏:‏ يا ابن آدم إنك ما دعوتني ورجوتني غفرت لك ما كان منك ولا أبالي، يا ابن آدم لو بلغت ذنوبك عنان السماء، ثم استغفرتني ، غفرت لك ولا أبالي، يا ابن آدم إنك لو أتيتني بقراب الأرض خطايا، ثم لقيتني لا تشرك بي شيئاً، لأتيتك بقرابها مغفرة‏"‏ ‏) (Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said:  I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, "Allah, the Exalted, has said: 'O son of Adam! I shall go on forgiving you so long as you pray to Me and aspire for My forgiveness whatever may be your sins. O son of Adam! I do not care even if your sins should pile up to the sky and should you beg pardon of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam! If you come to Me with an earthful of sins and meet Me, not associating anything with Me in worship, I will certainly grant you as much pardon as will fill the earth."') – At Tirmidhi Book 20, Hadith 1878

§  Hadith: (Abu Dharr (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Allah, the Exalted, and Glorious, said; 'O My slaves, I have prohibited Myself injustice; and have made oppression unlawful for you, so do not oppress one another. O My slaves, all of you are liable to err except the one whom I guide on the Right Path, so seek guidance from Me so that I will guide you to the Right Path. O My slaves, all of you are hungry except the one whom I feed, so ask food from Me, I will feed you. O My slaves, all of you are naked except those whom I clothe, so ask clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My slaves, you commit sins night and day and I forgive all sins, so seek My forgiveness and I shall forgive you. O My slaves, you can neither do Me any harm nor can you do Me any good. O My slaves, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any man of you, that would not increase My domain a thing. O My slaves, were the first of you, and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any man of you, that would not decrease My domain in a thing. O My slaves, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to stand in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more than a needle decrease the sea if put into it. O My slaves, it is but your deeds that I reckon for you and then recompense you for, so let him who finds good (i.e., in the Hereafter) praise Allah and let him who finds other than that blame no one but himself."') – Sahih Muslim 2577

What is Repentance?

§ Meaning of tawbah: to leave the sin because of its ugliness. Regret for what you have done, and return the rights to the people.

§  The ruling of repentance is that it is compulsory: Repent purely with sincerity.

§  Conditions of repentance (Sh. Ibn Uthaymeen):

·       Ikhlas, sincerity, repent only for Allah (swt)

·       Regret: can’t just leave it because of something else

·       Stop immediately: for example someone who is eating from gold and silver plates, they immediately get rid of their plates

·       Determination to not return to the sin

·       To repent when time is acceptable: two times when repentance will not count: when the soul reaches the throat, and when the sun rises from the west.

What are the qualities of those who repent?

§  Surah At Tawbah 112: (ٱلتَّـٰٓٮِٕبُونَ ٱلۡعَـٰبِدُونَ ٱلۡحَـٰمِدُونَ ٱلسَّـٰٓٮِٕحُونَ ٱلرَّٲڪِعُونَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدُونَ ٱلۡأَمِرُونَ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَٱلنَّاهُونَ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنڪَرِ وَٱلۡحَـٰفِظُونَ لِحُدُودِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ) ((The believers whose lives Allâh has purchased are) those who turn to Allâh in repentance (from polytheism and hypocrisy, etc.), who worship (Him), who praise (Him), who fast (or go out in Allâhs Cause), who bow down (in prayer), who prostrate themselves (in prayer), who enjoin (on people) Al-Marûf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all what Islâm has ordained) and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism of all kinds and all that Islâm has forbidden), and who observe the limits set by Allâh (do all that Allâh has ordained and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which Allâh has forbidden). And give glad tidings to the believers)

· They repented, they worshipped Allah, they praise Allah (swt), those who travel or fast, those who bow and prostrate to Allah (swt) – it is not only by the limbs, but by the hearts.  – so this part they are doing good to themselves.

·       They call people to what is right in the Quran and the Sunnah and those who forbid others from doing disobedience – this part they are good to others.

·       They observe the limits set by Allah (swt)

·       Give the glad tidings to the believers, and it shows you that the door to all of this is repentance, subhan Allah.

§  Surah An Noor 31: (وَتُوبُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ) (And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful)

§  We start with repentance and it is a continuous project in our life. We should only repent to Allah (swt). Allah (swt) has linked success to repentance – if you want success in this life, then repent, if you want success in the hereafter, then repent.

Aim of the shaitan is to make one disbelieve

§  The shaitan wants to reach to a person’s yaqeen, certainty and firm belief, but he can’t do it straight away, so he begins with destroying his manners, then he starts to make him do less voluntaries, then stop the obligations, then he starts to do things for riya’a, not sincerely to Allah (swt), until finally the firm belief is broken.

§  But remember that Allah (swt) will still accept the repentance, subhan Allah. So hasten to the repentance.

§  There was a man who asked his children to burn his body after he died, then Allah (swt) asked him why did you do this, he said because I was afraid to meet You with my sins. Of course keep in mind we are not allowed to burn our bodies.  

§  There was a lady who had to do ghusl for another lady, and then she said she refused to wash her because she said she is not dead. She said call for a doctor and the doctor said she is dead. Then they asked her what was happening, she said when she tried to wash her, her hands would move down to the wood. Then she went to her daughters and asked them to wash her, and they said they can’t. So then she asked them what was their mother doing that is causing this? They said why are you asking us, you are trying to make fitna. She said no, I need to know so that we can find a solution for this and for it to be a lesson for all. They said she prayed every prayer and paid her zakat, but she would gossip to the point that she made fitna between her own family, may Allah (swt) protect us. Ameen.

Allah is pleased with the repentance of a servant

§  Hadith: (Anas b. Malik reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said:Allah is more pleased with the repentance of a servant as he turns towards Him for repentance than this that one amongst you is upon the camel in a waterless desert and there is upon (that camel) his provision of food and drink also and it is lost by him, and he having lost all hope (to get tbat) lies down in the shadow and is disappointed about his camel and there he finds that camel standing before him. He takes hold of his nosestring and then out of boundless joy says: 0 Lord, Thou art my servant and I am Thine Lord. He commits this mistake out of extreme delight) – Sahih Muslim Book 37, Hadith 6618

§  Surah Al Baqarah 222: (إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلتَّوَّٲبِينَ وَيُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَطَهِّرِينَ) (Truly, Allâh loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves).

Repentance is kind of  worship

§  Why? Because Allah (swt) loves it, and when Allah (swt) loves something and we do it, then it is a worship.

§  Those who repent to Allah (swt) are in a state of humbleness, Allah (swt) gives many blessings to those who repent.

§  Replace sins into good deed: Surah Al Furqan 70: (إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلاً۬ صَـٰلِحً۬ا فَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ يُبَدِّلُ ٱللَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمۡ حَسَنَـٰتٍ۬‌ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورً۬ا رَّحِيمً۬ا) (Except those who repent and believe (in Islâmic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allâh will change their sins into good deeds, and Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful)

§  You can’t just say I repent and that’s it, there has to be action behind it, people who repent change how they used to lived their life, how they would wake up, they change their friends.

§  Expiation of sins, enter paradise, no disgrace on Day of Judgement. Surah At Tahreem 8: (يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ تُوبُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوۡبَةً۬ نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ وَيُدۡخِلَڪُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٍ۬ تَجۡرِى مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ يَوۡمَ لَا يُخۡزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُ ۥ‌ۖ نُورُهُمۡ يَسۡعَىٰ بَيۡنَ أَيۡدِيہِمۡ وَبِأَيۡمَـٰنِہِمۡ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَتۡمِمۡ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَآ‌ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ ڪُلِّ شَىۡءٍ۬ قَدِيرٌ۬) (O you who believe! Turn to Allâh with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will expaite from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) the Day that Allâh will not disgrace the Prophet (Muhammad SAW) and those who believe with him, Their Light will run forward before them and (with their Records — Books of deeds) in their right hands They will say: "Our Lord! Keep perfect our Light for us [and do not put it off till we cross over the Sirât (a slippery bridge over the Hell) safely] and grant us forgiveness. Verily, You are Able to do all things)

· The secret of acceptance of repentance is ikhlas, sincerity.

§  Wronging ourselves warrants punishment. Surah Al Ankaboot 40: (أَخَذۡنَا بِذَنۢبِهِۦ‌ۖ فَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِ حَاصِبً۬ا وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ أَخَذَتۡهُ ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ خَسَفۡنَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ أَغۡرَقۡنَا‌ۚ وَمَا ڪَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظۡلِمَهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن ڪَانُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ يَظۡلِمُونَ) (So We punished each (of them) for his sins, of them were some on whom We sent Hâsib (a violent wind with shower of stones) [as on the people of Lut (Lot)], and of them were some who were overtaken by As¬Saihah [torment - awful cry, (as Thamûd or Shu'aib's people)], and of them were some whom We caused the earth to swallow [as Qârûn (Korah)], and of them were some whom We drowned [as the people of Nûh (Noah), or Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his people]. It was not Allâh Who wronged them, but they wronged themselves)

· We should not be proud of our actions, we are doing so much wrong and Allah (swt) is concealing it for us. Don’t expose your bad deeds, don’t make others bear witness against you on the Day of Judgment. 

§  Allah (swt) forgives all sins. Surah Az Zumar 53: (قُلۡ يَـٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسۡرَفُواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ لَا تَقۡنَطُواْ مِن رَّحۡمَةِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغۡفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ هُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ) (Say: "O 'Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allâh, verily Allâh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful)

·       People might say I have sinned so much, can I still be forgiven? Yes. If you despair from the mercy of Allah (swt) then that is a sin actually, subhan Allah.

§  No repentance at time of death. Surah An Nisa’a 18: (وَلَيۡسَتِ ٱلتَّوۡبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعۡمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ قَالَ إِنِّى تُبۡتُ ٱلۡـَٔـٰنَ وَلَا ٱلَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمۡ ڪُفَّارٌ‌ۚ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ أَعۡتَدۡنَا لَهُمۡ عَذَابًا أَلِيمً۬ا) (And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: "Now I repent;" nor of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment)

· The repentance is not accepted of the one who repents at the time of death. There was a man who was reaching death, and he started talking about useless things, movies, etc. The people around him were saying to remember Allah (swt), so the man got fed up, and he said give me the Quran, so they were happy thinking he was going to do something good, then he said I disbelieve in this, pointing to the Quran. And then he died in this state.  Allah (swt) will expose the person at the time of death, subhan Allah. May Allah (swt) grant us the good end. Ameen.

§  Increase in rain, provision, children. Surah Nuh 10-12: (فَقُلۡتُ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ إِنَّهُ ۥ كَانَ غَفَّارً۬ا (١٠) يُرۡسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّدۡرَارً۬ا (١١) وَيُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَٲلٍ۬ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٍ۬ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡہَـٰرً۬ا (١٢)) (I said (to them): 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; (10) 'He will send rain to you in abundance; (11) 'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers.' " (12))

§  There was a lady whose husband died and she had five children, she felt like her life had stopped and had no money to raise her children. Until one day, she heard a sheikh saying make repentance and Allah (swt) will increase your provision. She started doing istighfar and taught her children to do istighfar. Then she found out their husband had left property that was hold for a high price, subhan Allah.  

§  Dua’a: Surah Al Ahqaf 15: (وَوَصَّيۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ بِوَٲلِدَيۡهِ إِحۡسَـٰنًا‌ۖ حَمَلَتۡهُ أُمُّهُ ۥ كُرۡهً۬ا وَوَضَعَتۡهُ كُرۡهً۬ا‌ۖ وَحَمۡلُهُ ۥ وَفِصَـٰلُهُ ۥ ثَلَـٰثُونَ شَہۡرًا‌ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ ۥ وَبَلَغَ أَرۡبَعِينَ سَنَةً۬ قَالَ رَبِّ أَوۡزِعۡنِىٓ أَنۡ أَشۡكُرَ نِعۡمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٲلِدَىَّ وَأَنۡ أَعۡمَلَ صَـٰلِحً۬ا تَرۡضَٮٰهُ وَأَصۡلِحۡ لِى فِى ذُرِّيَّتِىٓ‌ۖ إِنِّى تُبۡتُ إِلَيۡكَ وَإِنِّى مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ) (And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship And she brings him forth with hardship, and the bearing of him, and the weaning of him is thirty months, till when he attains full strength and reaches forty years, he says: "My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You, and make my off-spring good. Truly, I have turned to You in repentance, and truly, I am one of the Muslims (submitting to Your Will).")

§  Dua’a: Surah An Naml 19: (فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكً۬ا مِّن قَوۡلِهَا وَقَالَ رَبِّ أَوۡزِعۡنِىٓ أَنۡ أَشۡكُرَ نِعۡمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٲلِدَىَّ وَأَنۡ أَعۡمَلَ صَـٰلِحً۬ا تَرۡضَٮٰهُ وَأَدۡخِلۡنِى بِرَحۡمَتِكَ فِى عِبَادِكَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ) (So he [Sulaimân (Solomon)] smiled, amused at her speech and said: "My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favours which You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds that will please You, and admit me by Your Mercy among Your righteous slaves.")

سيد الاستغفار

§  Dua’a: Master of All Istighfar Dua’as: if a person reads this in the morning or in the evening and dies, then he enters paradise by the mercy of Allah (swt).

· "‏سيد الإستغفار أن يقول العبد ‏:‏ اللهم أنت ربي، لا إله إلا أنت ، خلقتني وأنا عبدك، وأنا على عهدك ووعدك ما استطعت أعوذ بك من شر ما صنعت أبوء لك بنعمتك علي، وأبوء بذنبي، فاغفر لي فإنه لا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت، من قالها من النهار موقنا بها، فمات من يومه قبل أن يمسي، فهو من أهل الجنة، ومن قالها من الليل وهو موقن بها فمات قبل أن يصبح، فهو من أهل الجنة

 (The Prophet (PBUH) said, "The best supplication for seeking forgiveness (Syed-ul- Istighfar) is to say: 'Allahumma Anta Rabbi, la ilaha illa Anta, khalaqtani wa ana 'abduka, wa ana 'ala 'ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu, a'udhu bika min sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u laka bini'matika 'alayya, wa abu'u bidhanbi faghfir li, fa innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa Anta. (O Allah! You are my Rubb. There is no true god except You. You have created me, and I am Your slave, and I hold to Your Covenant as far as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge the favours that You have bestowed upon me, and I confess my sins. Pardon me, for none but You has the power to pardon).' He who supplicates in these terms during the day with firm belief in it and dies on the same day (before the evening), he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah; and if anyone supplicates in these terms during the night with firm belief in it and dies before the morning, he will be one of the dwellers of Jannah.") – Al Bukhari.

This is a blessing from Allah (swt) that only He forgives our sins and we don’t have to humiliate ourselves where we have to confess our sins, which is so embarrassing. 

Affect of Sins

§  The person is deprived from beneficial knowledge, which is the Quran and the Sunnah.

§  There is a depression / loneliness in their hearts

§  Whoever fears Allah (swt), He will create an exit for them.

§  Difficult affairs: they are always complaining

§  One sin opens the door to another sin, it is like a chain. When a person repents, then you are breaking that chain.

§  One man came to Hasan Al Basri and said I cannot wake up for the night prayer, he said it is because of your sins, subhan Allah.

§  Sins are like a poison in the body.

§  The ones who repent are as if they have not done that sin and Allah (swt) changes that sin to good deeds, subhan Allah.

§  We have to do repentance even for our good deeds, for example a prayer without khushu’ is not accepted, so we repent. Or to give charity that is not sincere, we have to repent.

§  If you repent and you slip, get up and repent again.

§  Surah Al Furqan 68:

 (وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَدۡعُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ وَلَا يَقۡتُلُونَ ٱلنَّفۡسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا يَزۡنُونَ‌ۚ وَمَن يَفۡعَلۡ ذَٲلِكَ يَلۡقَ أَثَامً۬ا) 
(And those who invoke not any other ilâh (god) along with Allâh, nor kill such person as Allâh has forbidden, except for just cause, nor commit illegal sexual intercourse - and whoever does this shall receive the punishment)

§  The extreme of doubting leads to shirk.

§  The extreme of desires leads to adultery.

§  The extreme of anger leads to murder

§  Hadith: (وعن أبي موسى، رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال ‏ "‏إن الله تعالى يبسط يده بالليل ليتوب مسئ النهار، ويبسط يده بالنهار ليتوب مسئ الليل حتى تطلع الشمس من مغربها‏) (Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah, the Exalted, stretches His Hand during the night so that those who commit sins by day may repent, and He stretches His Hand in the day so that those who commit sins by night may repent. He keeps doing so until the sun rises from the West".) – Muslim 2759.

What is the difference between repentance and forgiveness?

§  Forgiveness: seek protection from the evil of the past / Repentance: seek protection from the evil of future

§  Forgiveness: leave the sin / Repentance: replace the sin with good

§  Forgiveness: remove harm of sin, fear to return / Repentance: brings benefit, gain protection against harm, fear to slip into wrong.

O Allah,

Forgive our sins,

Relieve us of our worries,

Close-off our debts,

Push away falsehood,

Guide the astray,

Keep firm who is straight,

Cure the sick,

And give wellness to those in hardship
